Nellie Melba appears on the current Australian $100 Dollar note.
Born in Melbourne, and trained in Paris, Nellie Melba had an high profile career and ruled the International Opera World for neaarly 40 years. With an impressive range of repetoire she was an Opera Diva who was always aiming to bring culture and opera to the world..She loved her homeland Australia and promoted all things Australian. She made many home visits to sing for her beloved people.

In 1903,Nellie Melba was one of the first singers to agree to recording her music. This gave her increased popularity and in 1920 she was the first to sing a concert on wireless radio

The Royal Duelling Sopranos to celebrate Dame Nellie Melbaâs extraordinary life, will sing a selection from her extensive repetoire

Th famous chef Escoffier from the Ritz invented foods for her especially, and even today they
are still named after her, Peach Melba and Melba Toast.

She has left a wonderful legacy worldwide, as well as a Melba Music Conservatorium in Victoria, Australia, and her spirit lives on with the Melba Foundation which has now just been put in place to help Opera in Australia.
